Christmas Present from My Family

To say I was surprised would put it mildly. I never expected my family to collude to get me a present I really wanted this year and not socks or ties. When my youngest son was here visiting we talked about my collection and some of the coins I'd like to add to it in the future. An innocent conversation, or so I thought.

My sons and wife got together and found one of the many coins we talked about. I've been missing coins of the Judea Capta series and I'm woefully shy of Titus coins. So, this is what they came up with:

    Vespasian 18.jpg
    s-l1600.png
OBVERSE: DIVVS AVGVSTVS VESPASIANVS, laureate head right
REVERSE: EX-SC, Victory standing left, holding shield on palm; seated captive
    "Judaea Capta" issue"
    Struck at Rome, 80-81 AD
    3.4g, 19mm
RIC II 59a (Titus); BMCRE 112 (Titus); Brin 80; RSC 144

Obviously, I have yet to remove it from it's tomb, but I will.

    Merry Christmas to all.

Its always nice to get a "coin" for Christmas! Sure beats getting clothes;)
I have 300+ "entombed" coins/ mostly in PGGS/ NGC/ ANACS slabs. I keep mine in their 20 coin cases. But/ I am making detailed labels for all of them/ since their so called data SUCKS big time. Here are some that I have relabeled. IMG_1417.JPG IMG_1418.JPG IMG_1419.JPG IMG_1420.JPG IMG_1421.JPG IMG_1422.JPG

Great coin @Bing and I like the idea of freeing the coin. Of the hundreds of coins I have there are 4 in tombs. They were given to me in trades and I have just let them sit as they are not needed to fill holes.
    Merry Christmas.

Great coin and family, can I be adopted. I would like to know why Entombed coins are looked upon with disdain…Is it the freeing up of the coin to handle?

Mostly. Handling Ancients is not like handling modern coins. These coins were found either in the ground or water and touching them will do no harm. Also, I have approx. 800 coins. I can't image having the space to save all of these if they were entombed like this one.

Yes, I see. May I ask how you store them? In 2 x 2’s ? and also May I ask how you inventory them. Thank you Bing. I always enjoy your posts.

I store in 2x2s in binders that are numbered. Each sheet of 2x2 holders is also numbered along with rows and columns so that my spreadsheet reflects exactly where they are (example: coin x is in binder 1, page 2, row 3 and column 4). I use Excel spreadsheet for my catalogue

    Me too....
I have 700+ coins in 2X2 SAFLIPs/ 50+ in # 2 1/2X 2 1/2 for coins that are 36mm. or larger/ also as I posted before in albums. As you said that takes way less room for discreet storage. If we lived in a perfect World/ I would displayed them and invite people over. IMG_1151.JPG IMG_1152.JPG IMG_1137.JPG IMG_1138.JPG
