Got a couple of GSA Morgans in the mail today. I think I did pretty good. The 1884 is a VAM 2 and the 1883 looks like a DMPL VAM 5A!

I have a similar NGC MS63 1884cc VAM2/2A that I bought from Matt/LostDutchman a couple years ago. You gotta love the die cracks in that VAM family. Yours is a nice example. Are you going to submit for PL/DMPL on the other?

Yes, I just have to stop buying them! The 83' really looks DMPL, but you never know what the professionals will say.

Nice! I just picked up an 81cc gsa ms62 toned with full coverage monotone obverse. Can't wait to see it in hand.

Tuff to tell from the pics but the 83 looks like it might squeeze out a PL but not DMPL. It looks super clean though. I'm guessing 64-66 but again the pics could be masking luster breaks and such. The 84 looks clean too but that low light where it produces a "golden" morgan in the pics really can hide things

I am particularly fond of the 1883cc. It looks very clean and gem grade quality. Can't say DMPL without seeing better pics, and actually seeing the coin, but I would think a 65+ Both look very nice.

I think you did a lot better than "pretty good." :)

Thanks man. The 83 definitely looks better in the picture, but I can almost guarantee it's DMPL (it's so hard to tell in the GSA holder). If it gets 64 I'd be psyched. The 84 actually looks better, but that mole on her nose and a poorly placed light scuff or planchet mark might not please the graders. I really can't see it getting lower than 65, unless I'm totally off base (which could be the case!). We'll see soon (relatively), they were sent in yesterday.

Yes, they look better in the photos, but all the contact marks are very light. Post the 81 when you get it! I didn't know if people appreciated monotoned obverse, I sent one in also but it has some marks. It would be interesting to see how they grade it.

Wow I'll bet you could shave using that 1883 reverse. Nice picks.

Ever since I heard about the shaving thing, that's how I try to tell DMPLs. If I can see my individual whiskers from a foot away, it's DMPL!

A foot?? Isn't it more like you need a clear reflection from 6+ inches to qualify for DMPL?
