An acquaintance on another forum posted this, and I thought I'd share it with you. Be sure to read all of the seller's comments! Chris http://cgi.ebay.com/1883-Hawaii-Sil...01?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item5887cbe8c1
WOW!! I am sad to report that I cant seperate the fakes from the genuine coins. I have one rule that I try to stick with when I buying a raw coin. That rule is that you are gambling on your own knowledge so never go over the dollar amount that you have set to gamble with. I buy most of my coins from the top graders. You may not have the biggest collection that way but atleast you dont have a copy that you purchased years ago stuck in your collection. Kudos to those who can brave the sea and find those great coins among the fakes and have them certified and turn a profit. I am not knowledgable or lucky enough to do this though. I cant believe that 99% of them are not even marked as copies, thats crazy. But come to think of it if why the heck would they want COPY stamped on the crap there pedaling?
FWIW, you acquaintance references 2 eBay listing numbers. However, both of them have been pulled by eBay.
Might have been pulled but I praise the person who did this. All this "reds" should be pulled out of ebay. Like I said, I praise the seller for educating others of this issues. Thanks for sharing Chris.
Excellent! I wish more people would read it. I would like to see a "monster toned" one like this also.
My acquaintance didn't reference any other listings. He was given the heads-up about the seller on eBay complaining about the fakes by an acquaintance of his. Subsequently, he posted the link on another forum, and I, in turn posted it here. He didn't post links to any other listings. That must have been done by the seller on eBay who was complaining. Chris
