Meng Chiang / Mengjiang was a Japanese puppet state in China. My understanding of Chinese geography is not the best but the current location is around Inner Mongolia.

While there are plenty of banknotes issued, there is only one common issued coin, which is the 5 jiao stuck in copper nickel.

There are other aluminum issues (1 fen, 5 fen and 1 jiao) which are supposed to be common issues however for unknown reasons are extremely rare. The current theory is that majority of the coins were sunk from an allied submarine torpedo.

That said, there is supposedly a pattern version of the 5 jiao. Some catalog call this white metal but I believe this is struck in zinc. Mine has a light die rotation error.

As you can tell, this is a lot brighter white and looks like zinc oxidization. I wouldn't say it's rare but they do not appear in the market often.

Maybe you have the rarer version?
