Cherrypicking a LCS, World Coin Bins

This is my latest attempt, feel free to share yours.

I picked up about 80 World Coins that I picked out of bins from a LCS (local coin store) here in Germany. I paid 30 euros in total, which I thought was overpriced, but I wanted the coins and paid 30... so I guess it wasn't. I only went through the two cheapest bins: 50 euro cents, and the "junk" bin. I pulled out every coin I thought to be silver. Of the ones I thought were silver, all but 2 actually were). I also pulled out every coin I thought I needed for my World Type Set. I am still sorting/cataloging but I think I am about 75% accurate on that list as well. I go off the top of my head, since I have a decent amount, so I often pull a few duplicates each go. I had fun and hope to go back to try to cherry pick the rest of the bins.

Sweet bunch of coins Brandon.
I'm sure you have been scouting out all the local coin shops as well as other shops that by chance may have some coins to sell. I know I would be.....

 

I try that too, and end up with lots of Cu-Ni

 

I'm getting pretty good at recognizing the various tints of older silver coins as well as remembering which ones are Cu-Ni so I don't make the same mistake again. Practice makes perfect.

 

Update: #15 Greece 5 Lepta was not silver. However, my coin from Palestine (or Israel British Mandate, however you choose to name it) 1942 100 Mils is silver and much larger, so good swap there.
I ended up with 15 duplicates not counting silver duplicates. I also added a few new countries to my country list: Togo, Ottoman Empire, German Nassau, German Baden, German Wuerttemberg), German Prussia.
Overall, not a bad score and I'm hoping to go back to the 1 and 2 euro bins when I'm allowed a little more coin collecting money from the wife!

 

Nice finds. For 37.5 cents each (30/80), you're way ahead on the deal given the silvers. Plus, there's much worse ways to spend 30 euro and leaves you with nothing in the end.

 

I couldn't agree more! The joy of picking world bins is I get to pull only what I want and while I pay a bit more than buying in bulk, I don't have all that excess I don't need.

I've always wanted to buy bulk coins, I actually have a couple of times, but they're always mid to late 20th Century with little variety. I always wonder how people buy bulk coins that have the goodies in them.
