Cherry Picking the Bisons

I have gone through thousands of Bisons P & D (a very large herd) looking mainly for errors and have found for the most part that the coins are pretty banged up. Many have prooflike surfaces but with lots of nicks. I have found many, many more errors (mostly minor) than high grade mint state coins. I have found however a few very high grade examples ( I think, but I'm not a grader) and some with prooflike surfaces. I don't know what to do with them. Should I send them to a grading co or put them in storage and let my 8 year old daughter deal with them when she's 40 :) .

    Hmmmm.

Thousands more to go though, man my eyes are getting tired. At first it was hard breaking open the mint sealed P&D Rolls, but now it's easy. Still waiting for the bison struck on a penny to show up.

I don't expect there to be very much luck finding anything above ms-67 when it comes to the bisons.... from what i've seen an MS-69 shall go for moon money once it's recognized they are so hard to aquire in that state, let the hunt begin.

My guess on a few was MS 67 and maybe 20 or so at MS 66, but then again those are just guesses. They are however very nice coins with many prooflike coming from Denver. We will have to see what the U S Mint Sets are like.

PL coins can be very tough on many moderns. While unlikely, it's entirely possible that every PL minted is in only several minutes production at the mint and they'll end up in just one location or batch of shipments. There are some dates which probably don't exist in PL but very inpressive collections of these could be formed and they don't get the attention they deserve.

I'd hang on to PL's and gems. If these PL's prove to be common then you can just spend the low grade specimens.

Just found two more die fills but no more high grade mint state coins, thank you mint.

On the prooflikes, I've noticed that they come in batches as well. Many times I'll be finding one error, then it stops and prooflikes show up, guess they changed the die.
