I keep thinking that this would be a logical progression in pricing...now that we have numerous online price guides for normal coins, why not for varieties and errors? I realize that it would be more difficult to verify items people "claim" are certain varieties, and the total number of actual sales would be much, much less...but I would think it is still within the realm of possibility.

PCGS price guide has added a lot of variety prices. Check it out.

They have the major ones (listed in Red Book, Coin Prices, CPG, etc) that they will attribute, but not less well-known varieties. Lots of open holes.

I do like how they will link the most recent auctions, though. Very helpful.

There are too many to keep track of.
Auction results are about all there is to go by.

Actually I mean PCGS just added a lot of the Newcomb varieties and Overton varieties, flying eagle cents, etc. Most of which now have prices in their guide. That's a new addition.

coin photographed is credited to Ed Burrell. Large Date Copper. A nice spread can be seen on GOD WE TRUST. On earlier die state examples, some light separation can also be seen on LIBERTY. NOTE: All coins examined in EDS or MDS have had a nice obverse misaligned die (MAD) error. Some LDS specimens have been reported without the MAD.

There is no price guide that is worth the paper it is printed on, or on-line, and that is true of all coins including varieties & errors. The Grey Sheet is the closest thing there is.

If you want to know what a coin is worth, any coin, then, as said, you need to research auction records. Period, end of story.

I have a 1923 mercury Doubled Die Obverse 10 cent silver coin in very fine condition the doubling is in the entire word of Liberty the date and some doubling in god we trust. I believe this would be the only one known for that year does anyone have a price range for this variety coin?
