Not considering return on investment purposes, do you think the coin looks cooler slabbed or in the original packaging? I have one and its a bit sentimental and just want the best way to admire it!
orig. i have 1 in original packaging. I do not think it is worth slabbing. now if you have the cheerio dollar definitely worth slabbing. big $$$$
Since you stated that it has sentimental value, I would rather have it attributed in a slab because it is very easy to damage it in the cello. It's not like this is a CC Morgan in the OGP. If you do decide to submit it for grading, leave it in the cello so the grading service can confirm the attribution. Chris
Another consideration for slab is detection of WAM-status, but I dont know if any have been found from the packaging.
I'd say original packaging provided you can carefully store it in that original packaging. Folks need to remember that plastic, at a certain age, can become brittle. Paper as well, at a certain age, can become weak. Can attract fungus (you know, the stuff that turns newspaper yellow then brown), can soften. Neither product ages very well over 25 or 30 years. If that was my concern, then I'd have the coin slabbed. Even if just to be able to see the reverse.
The plastic will one day break and it'll fall out. I like the original better but it will keep best in a slab.
Worth $4 in the original holder, $25+ in a slab. Probably a wash from a financial standpoint. I have one floating around in the original holder with no plans of slabbing it at this time.
Do you know how to tell if you have the valuable Cheerios Sac Dollar? With out opening them, you can tell the difference. Here is what to look for on the obverse:
