I found a 1797 Trade Dollar on Ebay tonight item#230098371224 that Im sure is fake. The seller "cgodoy15" has a "0" feedback rating and describes the dollar as follows....................This is a 1797 Silver Trade Dollar in fairly good condition. Im no expert but it the first of its kind that Ive seen. Catch it while you can. Starting bid is only $50. Which one of us is going to be the first to bid on this piece of crap!!! Let me know what you think. I dont know how to add the link but heres a pic.
Wow! Since trade dollars were only minted between 1873-1885 he must have one of those special rare early varieties. Better grab it while you can!:goofer:
We really should be allowed to kill SOME people. And FBI, since you tap our CPUs and phones....I'm kidding!
nice! You know, you would think if somebody is going to the trouble and risk of selling a counterfiet coin, they would at least get the date right!!:headbang:
Anyone know how to properly contact eBay about counterfeit coins? I've sent them a few e-mails about items like this, but have never gotten a response.
This is where to report it... http://pages.ebay.com/help/contact_us/_base/index_4.html?item=&topic=index_4&continue=Continue+> Speedy
FYI: I have reported 2 fake 1914-D Lincolns (x1944-D) and 2 for excessive shipping. All were pulled. However, I have no way of knowing if it was due to my actions, if I contributed to the removal, or what I did was totally meaningless.
Thanks speedy, I did report it. You can never tell if your personal action caused a fraudulent auction to be pulled or not, but if you didn't report it, and it continued, then it would be a real shame. So, don't hesitate, sellers have to be held accountable encil:
It's sad that stuff like this happens. Will try to report it also. Hopefully they will pull it. Phoenix
When I opened this thread I copied the description he had written for this auction and wrote it word for word. Now when I click on the link above and read his description I noticed that he changed it and added "This was not minted in the US (it is a fake in that sense) but it is silver and it is rare." In my opinion if its a fake silver dollar how can he justify that its rare? A copy of a Trade Dollar....hardly worth $5 dollars much less $50.
I had contacted the seller about this counterfeit yesterday & he sent me this irate e-mail about how he clearly states it is a fake coin in the description. I didn't think that was part of the description yesterday, so I'm glad someone else noticed the discrepancy. I was starting to feel bad about turning him in thinking I had missed seeing this!
I know that he changed it because I wrote it down just as he had it written. He was only irate because he was caught. You didnt miss a thing lwrncwg, you were exactly right turning him in just like the rest of us did. Did you see also that he lowered the starting bid from $50 dollars to $25 dollars.....there must be a special this week..
Did you see this guys other items he has for sale? He must either be employed by a thrift store or has alot of leftover yard sale items to get rid of. He obviously doesnt know squat about coins.
