This one recently ran it's course on ebay as item #180429800176. I wish I had the money to buy it, but a little voice kept telling me it has to be AT, even though it's slabbed. Too perfect to be NT. But what do I know--it sure is purdy. What do you think?
Seems reasonable enough to me. I don't see anything which makes me think it's AT. The toning is subtle and soft. Seems like most AT guys like to make 'em ridiculous and garish.
Looks good to me as well. I haven't seen too many AT coins where they were successful in toning just the high areas, such as that. Guy~
If it was stored for some time in an old fashion coin envelope, the high points would be the most affected due to their proximity to the sulfide paper. Jim
I don't know what you guys are seeing on your monitors but the entire coin looks toned to me. And it appears quite natural.
For those of you whose monitors and/or eyes are not working too well, :computer: the Indian's cheeks, eyebrow, and hair w/braid are gold toned, along with the date area and LIBERTY, while his nose, lips, chin, and fields look silver in the pic but the seller described the fields as being ice blue. For the reverse, the buffalo's body except for his right side legs and eye/snout area are golden toned, as is the mound and lettering of "FIVE CENTS" and AMERICA--but again the fields remain comletely silver looking. Especially with the reverse, the toning is so well confined to the buffalo's fur that it struck me as very unusual.
Scott My monitor is working well. Eyes are so-so. So, I wear glasses. Still, no change in my opinion. AND DOUG AGREES WITH ME! So there. nah, nah, na, nana. [LOL]
Looks nice to me. I don't suspect any AT on that coin. Holy Cow.. I agree with Doug once today too. lol..
Just asking because I don't know. Could the toning on the high points be caused by the body oils for touching it? Kind of like a fingerprint.
It certainly looks to me like it has a pattern of natural toning that is distinct on most of the high points. Golden over blue. Can't say I like the look too much but I also think these are not very good photos to judge from. The reflectivity seems charged up, maybe to accentuate the toning over the marks that are leading to an MS62 grade(or it could just be the seller is not a photographer). This is a pretty fair strike for a 28-S.
No disagreement there. But when you said, "I don't know what you guys are seeing on your monitors but the entire coin looks toned to me" it led me to believe that you and the next few replies could not see the difference in color on the high points vs. the fields.
