Sniped this on ebay tonight. I sure hope it is real. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170405994488&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
it's not the first one he's sold. How many does he have I wonder? I mean, the rest of what he's sold is all <$20 stuff and he's sold 2 Flowing Hair Dollars??? congrats, BTW!
Not really man. I paid with my AMEX and if it doesnt arrive or isnt real, I will dispute the charge and get my money back.
He also has a 1794 Flowing Hair as a 'Buy it now. Dont know what the deal is with him and FH Dollars. I just hope it arrives and its real.'
Maybe I should worry. Before the auction ended, I asked him if he would fedex it overnight to my confirmed address and he said no problem. I have not heard a word from him since the auction ended even after sending several emails. My concern is less of it being a hijacked account, but of having a seller who is probably dissapointed in the outcome, and may refuse to sell the item. We will see I guess. At the end of the day though, the money is secure. I just hope I get the darn coin!
I've seen the 1975 dollar....and Eisenhower's hair is anything but flowing....more like "flew" as in "flew the coop". I hope this works out for you. Nightowl
It kind of looks like one I was tracking in a Teletrade auction a week or so ago. When I get home tonight, I'll see if I still have it in my favorites folder. Once a Teletrade auction ends, then the track-bid list disappears unless you were the successful bidder. (I was not the successful bidder).
That's an ebay account where someone other than the owner of the account knows the user name and password and then uses it to run auctions and collect payments for items they have no intention of sending. When the angry buyers make their complaints and chargebacks the real owner of the account is the one who gets blamed.
I spoke to the seller today, seems legit. Said he would fedex it, so I should get it tommorow. Now the question will turn to authenticity. Its not every day you can buy a coin $1500 below greysheet bid on ebay, so I am guardedly pessimistic.
How do they get the funds? Do they also hijack the paypal account? Couldn't this be easily tracked back to the perpetrator?
Once while buying DVD sets on eBay, a seller sent me an invoice from a PayPal account NOT linked to his eBay account... of course I refused to pay. As it turns out, he was selling bootleg copies with nice color labels and no boxes. Just make sure the eBay and PayPal accounts match up, and you'll reduce your risk of being taken.
Arrived Today. My impressions are that it is most likely authentic. That is has some hairlines that may or may not keep it from grading. I overnighted it to NGC today and we shall see. I think it is a F-12 maybe even a 15. These are difficult to grade due to inconsistency of strike.
On second thoughts these may not be hairlines, could be registration and filing marks. That apparantly is very common to that series. Oh I wish today wasnt friday...gonna have to wait till next week to hear if it graded. :/
