cheap 1790's coin

    i really really want a coin from the 1790's and i dont know what to get , what is the cheapest 1700's coin? i would like to have one, my oldest is an 1827 large cent, i dont care what it is and it has to be US and around $40,thanks

    the worst 1798 large cent you can find. dont know what else to suggest.

    I think you should save a few more dollars and get a solid coin for the date. 1797 and 1798 are the cheapest - but that depends on the variety. Are you looking at dealers or ebay? What kind of details do you want? I know where you can get some solid coins for around $120(and one is R4 coin). A $30 or $40 coin will not have much in the way of details. Check out one of my favorite dealers - Tom Deck forsale.php. I think you would be better off laying out some extra cash and getting a solid coin that you will enjoy for years.

    Since you insist on a US coin you are going to be looking at a low grade 1797 or 1798 large cent. At $40 you're probably going to be looking at an AG or a slightly higher grade with problems.
