With the way that is indented it makes me think that someone was trying to have a little fun with that coin...kinda cool either way.

No one messed with this coin, it came out that way. If they did it would go thru the copper. The edges are perfect.

Uhh dont think dryers are hot enough to melt it. Then where would the clothes go? ha

I didn't think so either. Take a look at this thread: http://www.cointalk.com/t131989/
Compare the pics of my quarter to your cent. May be the same thing. Maybe not.

The Melting Point of copper is 1983 degrees Fahrenheit

Gotcha...was just a thought\suggestion. I'm sure someone else knows the deal with his cent. Consider also that the composition of the cent is not 100% copper anymore.

Dont think pennys are 100% copper. I may be wrong.

Zinc melts at 787 degrees still to hot for a dryer

zinc melts at 787F copper melts at 1983F a clotehs dryer only gets to 160F so I don't think a clothes dryer could melt a coin.

I'm not saying that the damage on this coin isn't PMD. But clothes dryers get blamed for a lot of damage on coins. A dryer simply does not get hot enough to melt a coin.

It looks like a strike through to me.

My thoughts exactly. Extreme struck through grease or something.

    rat,

The damage to coins caused by clothes dryers is typically spooning, not melting. (Search the threads here for countless examples.)

  20. It could all be due to the "beer goggles" phenomenon. :D   TC

Anyone else think this could be a die adjustment strike and not a strike thru? They look very similar to extreme strike thrus.
