Over the weekend, I purchased 2 graded coins, both PR69DCAM. One is from ICG and PCGS. I was wondering if there is a way using the serial numbers on the slabs to see when and who graded the coin.

    Thanks for your help.

The companies can do it internally, but there is no way for an outsider to do the same thing. And the companies will not tell you that information.

Now from the slab design I can tell you roughly when the coin was slabbed, at least for PCGS. ICG changes their slab so seldom that no date would be meaningful. ICG has only used three different production varieties sice they began operations back in 1998 and there have been no changes since 2001.

The ICG is a 1973 IKE Silver Dollar Proof with a green label on it. The PCGS is one of the new lablela and is a 2000S Kennedy Silver Proof.

The slab tells you which TPG it was, but there is no way in the world to find out whether Joe, Jim, or John was the actual grader. At the major TPGs the final grade is a consensus of multiple graders, anyhow.

All of the ICG slabs have had green labels, and a 2000=S Kennedy could be found in at least five different PCGS slabs since it was struck in 2000. (1Bar code on the back, 2Bar code moved to the front with small square hologram, 3Hologram full width ans same height as the square one with rounded sides, 4Same hologram but with straight sides, 5Hologram reduced in height 50%, 6Coin and series numbers removed. 3 and 4 are very difficult to tell apart and may just be an unintentional variation between two print runs of the hologram.)

Thanks for all the help. I guess I was wondering what part of the country it was sent from to be graded, I live on Long Island and was wondering if it was someone from NY, NJ or CT. I guess I will never know.

On the Kennedy, if I remember right ( at work now). Bar code is on the front, hologram on back. I believe the corners are rounded.
