I was surfing around ebay and noticed alot of PR69 coins for sale. My question is, how does one go about submitting proofs?

Do people just break up the proof set and submit them for grading and certification and hope it comes back at PR69.

Do they buy several sets from the mint and only submit the best ones?

Is there a website were I can see pics of different coin grades to compaire mine too so I don't waist money submitting.

    Thanks in advance,

    Ed

Proofs are submitted just like other coins.

YES. People are usually looking for a particular coin to grade prf 70 when they submit them. That's where the money is. Sometimes a collector of say, jefferson nickels will just submit his entire set and have it graded, but I think that that is very rare what with certification costs so high per coin. Could you imagine!!!

    YES. See above

Try the L and C coins website:

I got slightly burned buying an ICG prf 66 cam JFK accented hair. I compared it to my PCGS 67 and the grade is right, but cameo? NO WAY!! I'd really watch out for any modern graded above a 65 and all the cameo hype. Usually I am pretty critical of the photos, but I said ICG should know what a cameo is, right?

Just keep in mind folks, when you rely on a TPG's grade you're simply playing the odds on whether it's within 1 point of the assigned grade.

Actually, if it was slabbed by one of the big four, more likely than not you'll win :), but there's still a chance that it is overgraded. :(

If it was slabbed by a mid-level TPG, more likely than not it's overgraded :(, but there's also a chance that it is undergraded.

The only sure thing, is that one graded by a bottom feeder is overgraded.

anyone got a run down in price per coin and any other costs that would effect submitting of the top 4 grading companies.

There are so many different variables with all of the submission tiers and the value of the coin - that about the only way to know is to go look yourself. I'm not being flippant - just honest.
