I bought a nice 1884-CC GSA Morgan today and it came with a cert for the 1882. Do any of you know of a good place to get a cert for the '84? I've bought one in the past on eBay, but I'd rather trade for one. I seem to recall someone on here who has a lot of extra certs and said to contact him, but I don't remember who that was.
No just one. I sold a couple a while ago and forgot to sell the boxes with them. I do have an 81 with no box so I could use this for that one actually but it's in a pcgs scuba slab so the box is useless lol
HAHA!! The place I picked this one up at has a really nice '81 with box and cert. I'd say it's an easy 65. But I don't have the cash for it right now.
In fact the only reason I was able to get this '84 was that on Tuesday I walked into the local grocery store here with my kids to go to the bank. Right next to the bank is a lottery vending machine. There was a line formed at it and people were all excited. I asked what was going on and was told that a couple of Lottery Reps were there matching people's wagers up to $20.00. So When I finished at the bank, I jumped in line and put $20 in. I hardly ever do that, but they were matching my wager and I had a vibe. So I put my $20 in, they put another $20 in and that gave me $40 in credit. I selected a $20 ticket, $10 ticket and (2) $5 tickets. The kids and I went over to a nearby counter to scratch off the tickets. The $20 ticket was a winner for $100 and the $10 ticket was a winner for $50, the two $5 tickets were duds. So I turned my $20 into $130 profit. I also sold me 1901-S Morgan that I bought for $25 for $165. My profit after fees and shipping is $135. So I used those profits to buy the '84-CC, I paid $190 for it. In hand I think it's a nice 65 and it's a VAM-6. So it was basically free, LOL.
See that's where we are different. I would rather have the coin I got for a steal. That's what gets me off collecting wise. Knowing I bought a 3 figure or more coin at 10% or even 2% of its value. It's a thrill every time you look at it. Screw filling holes or completing sets etc. Gimme a killer score and it's the best feeling. Maybe that's why I became a vammer and toner guy. If ine knows his shit in those 2 areas one make killer money... if one sells that is And you have lottery reps doubling your freaking scratcher money!!!???
HAHA!!! I am exactly like you. I like to find those gems in the rough. When I first saw the '84 I felt it was a good 65. It's very frosty and came from a die that had produced some DMPL's. I can still see the mirror's behind the luster in the fields and the devices are still very white and frosty. It doesn't shoot very well because of the breaks in the frost on Liberty's cheek. With the breaks aside there are just a couple of true nicks and hits. The one problem is the reverse, the eagle's beak got hit and looks broken.
Given that 85% of the 1884-CC mintage came out in GSA (almost a million), you should have no trouble running down an appropriate cert.
