I bought this at a local coin show today, and need help getting an ID on it. Anyone know much about it?

I think your obverse picture is upside down.

There should be a portrait of a Zeus on the obverse.

does this coin look authentic? I cant find any with the rider and horse facing left with this design.

I am not an expert on this series. I don't see anything that proves it to be a fake.

Generally, these cost $200+ so the price is a little suspicious.

Hopefully someone knowledgeable will weigh in soon.

I am fortunate enough to have a very kind older gentleman who sales his coins cheaply, but I thought the price very low as well, but figured I would give it a shot!

Do you think it is this variety, but the horse facing left instead of right?

Maybe it is, the very ragged flan looks off to me.

I am pretty sure @Barry Murphy would know.

Odd looking coin. Style wise it's similar to the Kinnlos (chinless) types, but the engraving is a bit too linear and shallow and the flan isn't correct. Also the rider normally is facing right on those, not left. If you can take better photos out of the plastic, and provide diameter and weight, that would help.

I will take photos and get the diameter in a bit. The coin weighs 12.3 grams

  13. It looks similar in style to mine. Though, the horse has me worried; as it appears to be an outline only, as compared to a full engraving. Interesting piece. Have you taken a look at the edge yet? The weight is right.

What do I need to look for on the edge?

  15. A seem. In the event it were cast; a seem is sometimes left.

  18. I think your edge pictures rule out it being cast. The breaks and divots on the edge imply it was struck; as those divots would be filled in the event there were an obverse and reverse die being filled with metal. The surface itself looks strange to me; with several pocks and what appear to be bubbles. Though, as crude as their engraving elements were; I imagine their materials and methods followed suit. I am not an expert; but I'm leaning toward authentic. I would have still stayed clear in the event I were to come across it as a buyer; as I am not 100%.
