I purchased this coin this week. Rubbed gently with foil reveals its high content silver. I believe Eastern European Celtic . Any thoughts welcomed. many thanks
caffers, This looks like an interesting coin . Knowing the weight & diameter of the coin would be helpful .
There's nothing about the coin that strikes me as obviously fake. From the looks of it, I'm guessing that there was some copper mixed in with the silver that has leached out over time. That would explain the porosity and the greenish deposits. It's not unreasonable to assume that Celtic coins had a wider range of silver purity, since most of their coins were intended for local use. For added assurance, you could check some of the fake coin databases (https://www.forumancientcoins.com/fakes/) to see if it's been reported as a known fake.
