Celebrating My Way

    OK, so on Friday I completed 9 weeks of proton radiation therapy. All is OK & I am grateful to my Doc's for identifying the issue (although I still can't stand the residual "hot flashes" from the hormone treatments, but that's supposed to subside with time...it better!!).

    So my way of celebrating (in addition to a $400 tab @ Buca di Beppo for my favorite people on Saturday night) is to show off two of my railroad related possessions:

    First is an encased 1933 cent, commemorating the Baltimore & Ohio - America's 1st railroad.

    The second is a massive, what I will call a token, but it's 3 1/4" in dia. & 1/4" thick. It is hefty - I can't give the weight since it exceeds the capacity of my scale, but I'm guessing it's something like 1/4 to 1/3 pound:

    This second one seems to be solid brass & has the tactile "feel" of having spent time in a shop environment, although aside from the grunge, there is very little wear evident.

    So, that's it...enjoy! :happy::happy::happy:

    Glad you are better, my resolution this year is to stay away from people with knives, even if they are doctors.

    Now take it the whole way and book a trip on the Capitol Limited on Amtrak. It's the old B&O line. Washington to Chicago. Book a roomette.

    Great restaurant choice. I once ate there with friends and attempted to eat that monster brownie dessert with ice cream scoops on my own as a challenge. Might's managed it had I not eaten a huge dinner first. Got about 90% done before I had to run to the bathroom and surrender. I'm glad you're getting better.

    That's a great idea Kurt! I just checked out the route - looks great, & the roomette is very reasonable! Thanks for the tip!

    Thanks! Yeah, saw that brownie but we can never seem to get to dessert. We are making plans to go back just for dessert one day soon. We were fortunate to have been introduced to Buca many years ago in Louisville, KY & when we got home, discovered there was one just 6 mi. from us. Been going regularly since. :p:cigar::joyful:

    It's how I prefer to travel to ANA shows near Chicago. I take the Keystone to Philly, a NE Corridor to Washington, and chill out on the Capitol. Until they make a reasonable through train through Pittsburgh, that is.

    Hey Plano "train man", You are on the road to recovery, hot flashes or not stick with it. I sure like your emblems, especially the one with the 1933 encapsulated Lincoln.

    Thanks Dave! I got lucky finding it while I was looking for something else. Fortunately I was observant & got it for about $5. Haven't seen another like it yet, although I'm not usually looking for encapsulated coins. I keep it next to my rail spikes! :D
