A few of you may remember my previous posts/pics... finally went through the gsa cc morgans and sorted out what I think look the nicest (and told by lcs) they are about ms63-64s and a possible 65... so my question is... - Is it worth it to get them graded? - Will scratches on the gsa case affect value? - If so, is there a good way to remove the light scratch/scuffs on them?
I would get anything that might grade 64 or higher or would get a PL or DMPL designation graded. Scratches on the case won't affect the grade. There is probably a way to buff these out, but I would practice on brown Ikes first. The plastic is softer than what's used in today's slabs and will hairline if you use something like PlastX. Perhaps something like Novus No. 1 and/or No. 2 would work well.
I can't remember the years you had, but I agree with John "messydesk". If they grade 64, it would be worth it. I've used slab renew on my GSA's and the product works well.
I agree with John about submitting only those that would grade 64 or better. If you plan to submit them to NGC so they will remain in the original case, be sure to check for the VAM's that NGC will attribute. Chris
Do not grade GSAs unless they will grade at MS 65, which is unlikely-- the vast majority of them are moderately baggy, and will grade at 62-64. They are actually worth more in the GSA holder. If you have a very clean looking one, and want a grade, the NGC ribbon is the way to go.
I've known all about the PCGS change, but they put the original case (OGP) into their oversized slab. Unlike the NGC slab, it won't fit into the original Mint box or in any of the plastic pages designed to hold the original case. Chris
