CC GSA coins in PCGS holders, questions

I was thinking of sending some of my GSA CC dollars in original GSA holders to PCGS to have them graded.
I just got a 1887 (non CC) in the GSA pack that is PCGS and noticed a huge difference between the NGC and the PCGS certs. The NGC is a sticker on the GSA pack so it still fits in the black box. The PCGS is in a large hard plastic body bag/box and will no longer fit in the black box.

Is that how it is done by PCGS today or were they older holders? I poked around the PCGS website and all the pictures of GSA coins there are in the large plastic boxes. I have to assume they are more secure that way, I am sure there is a way the NGC stickers could be removed and put on another GSA coin...

I believe you have the option to have the GSA coin in the GSA holder encapsulated or you notate "PCGS Standard GSA label" on your submission form. The standard label will fit into the GSA box. PCGS will not remove an NGC sticker; the coin must be removed from the GSA holder and submitted for grading and slabbing in a typical PCGS holder.

If you submit your GSA holders to PCGS and "Mark the "Other" box and list GSA Oversized holder" they will stay in the GSA holders and be put in their big plastic boxes. If you don't mark that, they will crack them out and put them in a regular slab, and put GSA on the label. They will fit in the GSA box alright, with plenty of room to spare.

Are you saying you can no longer get the "PCGS Standard GSA label" affixed to the GSA box, without the PCGS plastic holder?

You couldn't even see the coin anymore with that much plastic haha

It's a LOT of plastic. Id go NGC if I had a do over. Plus the slab itself is expensive. I have two PCGS GSA's.

I don't believe PCGS ever had a label affixed to the box.
NGC had the sticker over the slab. PCGS used to crack them out and put the coin into a regular holder with the GSA pedigree on the label. Then they started offering the service where the entire GSA holder in encapsulated into a larger PCGS holder.

PCGS has never done just the sticker without the extra holder that I have ever heard of.

Me either. Small cracked out slab or the huge plastic slab.

It's a good thing there are smarter people than me on this thread, which corrected what I said. I guess if you want to keep the coin in the GSA box, NGC it is; with PCGS you get the big plastic holder or slab.

The thing that most people don't know or forget though is that with NGC and the strap sticker grading that so many seem to like, at least some of them if not all specifically state that NGC is providing no warranty/guarantee for it.

The "PCGS Standard GSA label" is a standard PCGS slab with GSA or GSA Hoard printed underneath the date.

Exactly the same as for the Redfield Hoard pieces in the Red capsule.

Which guarantee are you referring to?
    Authenticity? Or Grade? Or Both?

Ive never even heard the word- warranty
used to describe a TPG grade before

That was true back when they first starting banding the things. But a year or two ago they extended their guarantee to cover those banded holders. So now they carry the same guarantee as their regular slabs.

But the still don't cover Redfield Hoard red holders.

I noticed the disclaimer was removed from the newer ones, but did they back date that to the older ones as well?

That's true they don't. They also do not cover the Japanese 5 and 10 yen gol coins in similar holders that were sold by the Japanese government from their WWII stockpile.
