Good evening my fellow night owls. I have quick question. I have quite a few of the 1979 SBA with both S and D mint mark as well as a 1980 P, S and D. The thing I find curious is that they somehow have the same yellowish discoloration on both sides of the coin. Was it caused by how they were previously stored, or due to something environmental? Or does it have to do with its composition? These coins were acquired from different sources: court house vending machine, cashier from a convenience store and from a bank just to name a few. Hope to hear from you fellows. Thanks.
Just normal natural toning. IMHO. If you are thinking that it's a wrong metal or off metal then there are factors to take into consideration. Weight is one of them.
Thanks for the info. Never thought about weighing them. I'll probably check that out. One thing I actually noted was that the D- minted coins are the ones that show the more drastic change in toning. Do toning change on any coin in general, diminish or enhance its collectibility and or its grade?
Those coins are really nice coins. Id keep them just because of that. and you hardly ever see 1980, 1999 imo I think they are worth a little bit more but don't quote me on that one. I treat older dollar coins like I do Eisenhower dollars. You can sell em for 2 bucks a piece at least. I've sold 6 Ike dollars for 20 bucks.
That's pretty amazing. I see them at nearly every show I go to in a "junk box" marked $1.25 each. Keep in mind, I'm not talking solid MS64's or anything.
Yeah I charge them with the idea that I had to skateboard long distances in the Arizona heat. Most people understand, and it is the truth. I also sold 3 more for a pack of smokes. Lol. People will pay what they want.
