I just moved my safe to a new location and was wondering if any of you have dehumidifiers in there safe? If you do what is the desired humidity for coins and or paper.

The lower the humidity the better for coins. You'll never achieve a 0 humidity, so don't waste money on gimmicky contraptions. Packets of decascent (spelling?) will suffice. Paper, on the other hand will become brittle to the point of falling to pieces if humidity is too low, but may mold if too high. You'll have to consult someone more into currency on the subject.

In short, you shouldn't store coins and currency together, as whats best for one is death for the other.

I'm running 18-20% rh in my safe (coins only).

My part of the country is relatively humid. Dessicant pacs don't work for me, since they would need frequent recharging.

I use Eva-Dry rechargable dessicant. Just plug 'em into the wall overnight, unplug the next morning, and stick 'em in the safe. I may add one or two more to drop %rh lower.

    I chose a water-resistant safe.

I keep my currency (the raw notes) in separate smaller safes locked in with my coins in the general safe....no concerns...
