    Roman Medal

It as Cardinal Hercules Consalvi on it, dated MDCCCXX1V (1855) i think it is a medal but not sure, can anybody help to identify it. It also has the name hercules spelt with a v instead of a u.

I moved this over here so more people would see it...I think the date would be 1825...not 1855...

The year is 1824, I think - that would be the year when Cardinal Consalvi died. The inscription QUO FAS ET GLORIA DU**** means something like "Where right and glory lead" (a military motto too). Note that here too the U's are replaced by V's ... fairly common back then. The ancient Romans had no separate "U" character, so in later times using the V instead of U made an inscription look "classic".

This is a list of medals (no images) and number 2297 could be your piece.

Hmm, maybe there are other reasons for writing DVCVNT ... instead of a word that gets partly replaced by asterisks when you try to post it here. :D
