New purchase. What would you grade? I think it was a bit undergraded by the seller which is why I picked it up. :D

I'd call it a nice XF

    looks XF to my eye.

But, what do I know, I wear glasses.

    LOL.

So, what did the seller grade it? VF?

hmm. No the seller gave it an XF-40. Maybe it just has a n exceptional strike, because it has stronger details than most of the certified AUs I was browsing through on heritage. I was thinking at least a well struck XF-45.

Well does not mean a TPG would not grade it AU50, but a little too much wear on the wing to me to make AU. In my opinion this is a well struck very nice little bustie.

It is a nice one, and it is always good to feel like you got a good deal
I guess I have to agree with the others, a nice EF. :)
Not too much wear, and barely any on the reverse :)
And when can you go wrong, with seller undergraded silver??? :D
    Nice catch!

Thanks for the comments guys.:smile:smile Is this is a series that is typically overgraded by TPGs?

I don't know that I see the "bust" series as a whole being overgraded...
One thing I do notice, is that most bust halves, have been dipped, and I would guess the same for half dimes
    Now..
Coins in AU-BU will generally get away with being dipped, and get slabbed anyway
Coins in VF-EF with a good dipping, look very odd, and it is best to buy them in more of a brown color, or black color, like the one you bought
For the most part, I see that most busts, are graded accurately, but you can always argue a case of an under/over grade on any coin
