Hello everyone, Several day ago I posted what I believed was an error coin, no one responded so yesterday, I had someone look at it and I thought I hit the jackpot! Not really, anyway I found out it was worth $10.00 not bad for a penny right? Thanks anyway
It’s only worth face value. If you sold it for $10.00 be happy as the buyer thinks they hit the big doubled die one but it’s not even close.
Sorry, but whomever informed you it was worth $10, should buy it from you, because as Potty mentioned, it is machine doubling, not Doubled Die. When both the date AND the mint mark of a cent minted before 1989 (last year MM were hand stamped) show doubling, it is "worthless doubling" as the doubling was not caused by a doubled die. http://doubleddie.com/144801.html
1969-S 1C Doubled Die Obverse, RD (Regular Strike) Lincoln Cent (Modern) - PCGS CoinFacts Keep at it Murillo. BTW.......most excellent photogs you've provided.
That's a DD/MD specimen right there. You'll note that for that year and mm, you'll find many of those. And many here before you...and many that will come after...will do the doubletake. It happens a lot for the dates where major DDOs/DDRs occured.
This is a sad thread. #1 - that's not a Doubled Die. Just worthless doubling. #2 - Definitely not worth $10.00 #3 - Doubled Die fall under the Variety category not the Error category. #4 - Don't feel proud about selling a coin that shouldn't have a premium for $10.00 That's robbery in my eyes (And foolishness) #5 - Not everyone outside of CoinTalk will give you the correct information for your questions. We will help you in the most truthful manner.. Remember all that!
If someone offered him $10 and he believed it were a doubled die, there is no wrong doing on his part. If I did this and found out I had sold it misrepresented, I would probably try and get back to him and make it right.
