I've searched the internet high and low and can't find any history of what this thing is!!! Any clues???
it is a medal, NOT a coin. That said it appears to be a Presidential medal, but beyond that Im sorry that I can't help you much.
And it is not the one issued by the US Mint. The Mint's product catalog site is down for maintenance, but the description quoted in a Google search doesn't match the one on this piece. In general, private mint medals of this type have no numismatic value beyond the bullion value of their metal, but sometimes there are people specifically interested in the historical figure who would place a higher value on the piece. In the case of Zach Taylor, I wouldn't count on it.:smile
I think it might be the Franklin mint, not 100% certain but I know I have seen it before. Now as far as collectability there is a large market for Commemrotive Medals out there (I Know Im a collector LOL) but they very rarely go for big bucks unless of course they are Gold or very rare have you tried a google search for it? could be classed as a medal. Medalette (Think I have spelt that right) De Orc
I remember many years ago when I was a kid.."Shell Gas Stations" were giving out the Presidents medals..perhaps it might be one of those? RicikieB
The Shell tokens generally had the Shell name and logo on the reverse, but if I recall correctly, the various Readers Digest medal series had no ID, and I think they did a presidential series.
