Well as a 12 year old i can't drive or walk to the bank and back with a whole box of coins so i have to ask parents to drive me. Recently it's become a hassel to trade coins and there getting REALLY ANNOYED. They also dont think it's worth the time because of the little amount of coins that i keep. I average about only 1 35% a box and 1 40% a box. Have never found 1 silver dime or a silver quarter ...... I have been thinking about switching to bills becuase there easier to exchange and there MIGHT be more keepers. For those of you who search bills im most likely going to search 1 dollar bills. My parents can lend but up to $500, if i got that much in one dollar bills would it be worth it? Would i find anything? Also, is it as profitable as coins? What should i look for in bills, are there any errors? I know to save anything thats are star notes but dont know what year should be the cut off (such as 1964 in dimes and quarters). Can you still find silver or gold certificates?
Also forgot to ask, would 2 dollars work as well? The person im asking to order these is really close to my family so she wont mind. Are there any 1 dollar gold or silver certificates? i've never seen one.
I do not know about what date cutoffs are good but yes, there are one dollar silver certs. They have a blue seal.
I've never caught the paper-money bug, but I did have a chat about it with one of my favorite tellers a few months ago (I'd asked for some $2 bills for a guy at work). She said they see older bills occasionally, but "almost never" any silver certificates -- I had the impression that it had been months or years since last they'd seen one. I didn't even bother asking about gold certificates.
You could search for star notes. Not my collecting area though. I spend all my greenbacks. What about cents? Lots of errors and varieties. TC
