Another one finished up because as the title says I can't clean enough of them. Here are some before and afters.
That looks great! I have several uncleaned LRBs that look like yours in the first picture. I was never able to coax anything out of them though.
I had reasonable results tumbling mine in a rock tumbler, using beach sand as a medium- just for a relatively short time. But sawdust for a longer period might have been better. That was the only uncleaned lot I ever tried. It was maybe 20-30 pieces. There were some dinky little Greeks in there- I got a few Ephesos bees, like Æ10-ish sized.
I think I did it just one overnight with the beach sand. I’m pretty sure I’ve heard of other folks use softer media like sawdust or crushed pecan shells, tumbling for longer. It should be said that I did not really know what I was doing, and was experimenting. The so-so results I got might’ve been lucky. It was, as mentioned, the only uncleaned lot of ancients I ever attempted to work on. BTW, it was a cheap kiddie rock tumbler I used, and by no means a professional-grade one.
Nice work! You've just inspired me to purchase another 26 uncleaned to hopefully arrive before or during the holiday break for me to dig into... It's been well over a year since I've done any bulk "crusty" coin cleaning like that.
Very nice. When I got started on the cleaning kick my goal was to clean, identify and attribute 100 coins. I've done that and (101) would like to do more. It is just a hobby. All too many of the coins can be found at less cost already cleaned. I put an edit in here. I meant to say my goal was 100.
I gave money to coin talk about a year ago I think It was dues of some kind. What is the customary thing to do?
Wow, what a great difference you made on that coin congrats. Hard work and patience paid off for sure. Thanks for the post.
I use a weird assortment of tools. I have Bamboo, toothpicks, orthodontic tools and even safety pins. I tried using Andre De Crayon (spelling?) but they were really flimsy for me and I could not achieve what I wanted using them. I could have been using them incorrectly though. If you enjoy it, go for it! I was slightly discouraged at first but after several years I think I have a slight bit better understanding. Just be patient, also post your cleaned when you get the chance. Enjoy seeing other peoples work.
I am not sure I understand the question, I believe the CT site still takes in donations and has a page on here where you can do that. Though I do not know where it is located directly.
