I'd guess the 1858 20c is between G-4 ($50) and VG-8 ($85) and the 1913 cent is between G-4 ($0.80) and VG-8 ($1.50) And it's hard to tell, but the toning on the 20-cent is not looking too nice, it almost looks like rusted copper, but its actually .925 silver. And the 1913 has been cleaned at one point in time, I'd say theyre both 'About VG' but you are probably looking at selling them for 'G-4' prices. The prices are from Haxby/Willey 2007 Coins of Canada 25th Ed. Hope this helps!
joe: that 20 cent coin is very strange, it should be silver, as dopeuser said, but looks like copper.
Frank, the very scarce Canadian silver 20c. coin is very worn, which is why it is a black colour.I haven't got one of these.I do have a New Brunswick 20c. (very tough coin to find,I must add!) & some 20c. coins from Newfoundland (easier to find, but still a tough series to find!). Aidan.
I have studied the grading book very carefully and I have to disagree here. I am going to grade them both at F-12. From the current CCN trends the 20¢,assuming it is medal alignment, has a value of $110.00 and the one cent $2.00. Prices, as Dan mentioned, are in $CDN. Bill
Bill,I thought the Canadian 20c. coin was in coinage alignment (both sides upside down in relation to one another).I think you'd better check the Charlton catalogue again to be sure.I know that the New Brunswick & Newfoundland 20c. coins of Queen Victoria are definitely in coinage alignment. Aidan.
The Charlton catalogue shows coinage alignment only but the CCN trends shows values for both with the coinage being the figure I quoted ( my mistake ). I can only assume that some medal alignment examples do exist. Bill
Bill, medallic alignment coins for the Canadian 20c. coin are not listed in Krause.I strongly suspect that these are pattern coins. That's my opinion. What is the CCN price trends for this extremely difficult to find coin like? Aidan.
Your opinion is correct, the medal alignment is shown in the pattern section of the Charlton. Trends price for that coin in F-12 is $250.00. Bill
