Here's a section that will interest the Canadian members of the board. It is about the postal notes & postal orders which have been issued in Canada. The postal notes were issued in all provinces, except Newfoundland, which was not part of Canada prior to 1949.The Canadian postal notes are collected by the province of issue. Here is a link to a picture of an 80c. one from Ontario; www.bnaps.org/tutor/B_postalnote1.jpg . As you can see from the picture,it is inscribed in both English & Quebecois (French).Note the crude portrait of King George V at top left. Since 1949,the following British Field Post Offices have opened in Canada; B.F.P.O. 14. - Suffield (Alberta). B.F.P.O. 51. - Wainwright (Alberta). B.F.P.O. 9. - Goose Bay (Newfoundland). & B.F.P.O. 487. - Ottawa (Canadian Federal Capital Territory). All B.F.P.O.'s issue British postal orders.I know that the 2 B.F.P.O.'s in Alberta are still open, but I am not sure about the bottom 2 listed B.F.P.O.'s.If anyone has any information, could you please leave a posting? Aidan.
Cindy & Chris, this thread will be of interest to you, along with this; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postal_Orders_of_Canada . I've since been informed that not every British Field Post Office issues British Postal Orders, but most of them do. Aidan.
Aidan, I don't really know much about Postal Orders, but thanks for the link. It was an interesting read.
Chris, postal order collecting has been a very underrated area of notaphily for a very long time.In England, postal order collecting has been taking off for a number of years.I have even got into collecting them myself.I got into it almost by accident,as the Orange Free State's postal notes are listed in the Pick Specialised catalogue. The 1/- & 5/- ones turn up over here. Aidan.
