If you had about $100 in mixed 40's, 50's, and 60's run of the mill canandian nickles, what would you do with them? My bank wants to charge me 10% for turning them in. Olmanjon

Go to Canada and play the nickel slots, slowly add them back into circulation or wait until the price of nickel goes up and melt them at the scrapyard. Or, start a collection!

well you could always check what you have for a few of the rarer types :) some are listed for a good chunk of change.

like the 1947 with a dot beside the date (not the maple leaf) goes for $40 in VF and jumps up a fair amount each grade higher

1951 in high relief starts at a nice $350 in VF-8 condition so not bad at all

1953 has several varieties 2 of which are worth alot

1953 No shoulder fold leaf close to denticales $750 in vf-20
n 1953 shoulder fold leaf far from denticales 350 in vf 20

and theres more that have a half decent value so I dunno if you checked them that closely for these small variaties but could always be a good weekend/evening project and you might find you nickles are worth more then the $100 bucks :) have a good time with them :D

Have looked through all the nickles and didn't find any of the afore mention varieties. My local dealer did not want them and now I am stuck with them. Putting them back into circulation would take years. Any other ideas?

Well I live in this town about a block from the bank and have lived here for almost 50 years, so everyone knows me and if I walked into the bank with 60 rolls of nickles then they would know who brought them in and my word is worth more than any monetary amount that I would make on the transaction so no thanks.

Here in the states if you don't have an account with the bank you can't cash a check or deal in large quanities of cash unless you have an account with them. Try again-one more time.

Update on those canadian nickles. Offered them at my monthly coin club meeting at $2 per roll-four guys came up to me afterwards asking about it. Will take them with me next month.

Start a collection of dates or type. Then sell them to a dealer.
