I popped open a roll of dimes today and found a Canadian dime that I have never seen before. It is from 2001 and the reverse is Year of Volunteers. I only live 2 hours south of the border and we get a fair chunk of Canadian coinage, but I have never seen one of these. Does anyone have any info on this? Is it a proof, or a special run like our statehood series? Thanks- Mike

They were made for circulation and 224,000,000 were made. A silver proof was also made with a mintage of 40,634. If it has a P under the queens bust its a regular circulation coin. It has a steel core plated with nickel and copper. Its actually more common then the regular "Bluenose" 2001P ten cent.

    Defiant7-
Thanks much! I am surprised that I hadn't seen one up to this point. Very nice modern design- one of my favorite Canadian coins for sure.
    Thanks again- Mike
