On the Canadian one cent coin, I found two types. One had Elizabeth II on it, and another had a bald man with a weird name. The dates are within 10 years of each other, know the reaseon why there are two different heads on the same type of coin? waterbed22
They are father and daughter. King George the 6th is the father of Queen Elizabeth the 2nd. When George died Elizabeth became Queen. Before George VI there was Edward VIII. Victoria 1837 to 1901 Edward VII 1901 to 1910 George V 1910 to 1936 Edward VIII 1936 (he abdicated in the same year) George VI 1936 to 1952 Elizabeth II 1952 to date
I'm not sure what coin you're looking at, but what you could be seeing for a wierd name is "Georgius," which is simply the Latin form for "George." George VI's given name was Albert Frederick Arthur George. He was "Bertie" to the family, but took the name George VI when he became king to provide a connection to his father George V. This was deemed necessary because of the abdication of his older brother Edward VIII.
Yes-that's the name on the coin. I didn't have the coin handy when I wrote the post. Thanks for the info- waterbed22
