Is there anyone collecting any Canadian coins. I,m Canadian and haven,t a clue what to look for. Any help on years and coin type would be great. Cheers!!! Rick
Yeah, there are quite a few who casually collect, and there are a dozen or so (that o know of) that collect them seriously. What denomination are you thinking of collecting?
I have gathered a large amount over the last year... I think the oldest one i have is a 1935 nickle. I have a large amount of cents ranging from the 40,s to the mid 60,s 70,s... Any clue on what i should be looking for? Thanks Rick
I collect Canadian coins as a matter of fact I collect just about any coin. I just got a few 20's-30's pennies from a e-bay auction for a "unsearched lot" it actually was quite a good lot. Living in Maine I do get a good bit of Canadian coins thru the store. I really do like what they've done with the quarters, Outstanding.
Yea they did a great job on them.. I have a lot of the the 2010 olympic coins as well as province coins.. (All are 25 cent coins) Also have a couple of 1973 RCMP Quarters, there are two varieties and i,m not sure what one i have. Any ideas on what i should be looking for in US coin. Any info would be great. Thanks Rick
I do not usually collect Canadian coins but did purchase these two recently: Canada Dollar 1937 Canada Dollar 1949 Newfoundland
While I don't specifically collect Canada coin, I actually have a dozen, the oldest being a 1902 one cent. Q
Welcome ... fellow Canuck here. Pick out a denomination(s) that you like and concentrate on a few series. Make your first $50-$60 investment in a few basic guides/books and increase your library/research every year. I would suggest you check out this forum http://www.canadiancoin.com/ with a huge cross-section of Canadian Collectors from all walks of life, all ages, and all levels of expertise..... from the top world-known collectors/dealers to the newest newbie. I'm a Vicky Large Center.
Regarding the Mountie quarters: You have to count the beads around the edge of the coin. They made two versions. One has 120 beads I think. I am not going to go look at mine right now but I think you would start by getting a loupe and counting the number of beads. I collect Canadian and have too much stuff. Don't know if this is allowed here but I will point you to a good deal I have going on www.coinbug. I really would like a new collector to snap this up or a member here. 25 nickels with 2 folders. Nice early dates too! Also look at my post in the open section for April 10th. Down the bottom is the Canadian nickels. Pictures on coinbug.
I myself have a nearly complete set of silver bluenose dimes, and have started collecting some of the rarer dimes from earlier years, and some canadian large cents. If you can find them they are a treat to add to your collection.
Thanks for all the input guys. I was at the bank today and got a few rolls of cents and nickles and this is what i found. US cent"s 1940,1963D,1956D,1944,1948D,1969D,all are in fantastic condition great strike and color. Canadian Cent"s I found a 1934 cent that looks like new (Beautiful coin) and a 1927 Nickle also in fantastic condition.. Gonna keep looking. Thanks all RICK
Anyone have a safe way to clean my coins. I know that typically you should not do it ,but what if the coin is very dirty.. I have tried the mild soap and cotton swap, works but want to have the coins look new , is this a bad idea??? Thanks rick
Hey Rick, if you found a 1927 by roll searching... I would say you should pick up a lotto ticket, can't say I know of anyone finiding an old design nickel in change. If you would like to know about a certain denomination, or series of coins let us know and I'm sure most here, including myself, are more than willing to help. Take care, -S
Thanks.... I went into the TD bank bought 10$ of nickles. was disappointed that i was not getting anything good ,and the last roll is where i found it. I,ll put a pick up.. The coin is in fantastic condition... Rick
