Just wanted to share this quality piece for my Canadian collection. An 1894 5c key date in ICCS MS63.
If people only knew how difficult it is to get nice Victoria coins in high grades (and not just the key dates), prices would be even higher. Nice pick up - I'm jealous
Thanks, I fought pretty hard early on: anytime I got out bid in the run up to the auction I immediately outbid the competition. By the time it got to the auction I didn't get one bidder try for it. By that time it was C$950. I would like to know what's happening in the Canadian market in the longer term.......not easy living in the UK but I do know that the colonial coin market has been bullish. All the really big money I have ever made in coins has been on Chinese stuff but I did just sell a NFLD $2 1865 AU58 for a good price. Here's another couple of nice coins from my collection.
Over the years I have been picking up Newfie coins whenever I come across nice ones at a good price. 30 years ago it was a lot less expensive, I can tell you that. The mintages for most coins are miniscule and, as I said before, nice examples are few and far between.
Turned out to be about C$1170........just picked up some cheaper stuff too on the Heritage auction in Dallas last night. Canadian 10c 1882H in XF 40, 10c 1901 XF40 and a 5c 1901 in AU58......all for the grand total of $130 .
Thanks for saying so. I really am still pretty poor at grading but I do spend a lot of time searching for good Canadian, NFLD or Chinese coins to buy. I am moving towards ICCS for my Canadian and NFLD stuff, and more towards NGC for my other stuff. I also bought 80 Canadian coins at near bullion value and will be interested to see what I get, 50 dimes .800 and 30 quarters .800. Will update you all if anything nice appears.
