How can I spot a new Canadian replacement note. I know in the US its easy just look for the star. And the older Canadian ones have the * or and X as the third letter. My question is how can I find a new one? Like 2004 + Thanks
Basically, you can't. Unless you find a note that doesn't belong in a brand new brick. The replacement notes haven't been marked this way since 1996. Now the notes are "insert notes". Some of these (not all) begin with a "9" but to determine whether one of these notes is an insert, it would have to be found in a brick replacing another note. Some brick collectors have recorded these found notes and they are listed on the Canadian Paper Money Forum. Here's an explanation of Canadian Replacement/insert notes: http://www.cdnpapermoney.com/English/BoC/Insert_Notes.htm
Thanks for the information ikan, that is truly an interesting tidbit since I was about to ask a friend in Toronto to look into Canadian stars for me.
