A bank is a bank is a bank. If you want quantities you should ask the bank where you do business if they can help you.

Shouldn't be a problem to get Canada Halves from a bank. I got some Canadian currency from a US bank no problem.

acodym, visit your local bank branch. It's unlikely they'll stock 50c pieces, but they should have no problem ordering the coins in for you.

I am wondering that too. Given that the Royal Canadian Mint is doing a coin recycling program, you would think the old nickel dollars, and the nickel 50 cent pieces would be the first to go into the melting pot.

From what I understand the the Royal Canadian Mint is only selling collectable rolls (i.e. at higher than face value), and no Circulation strikes have been minted in awhile now.

I have never bothered asking a bank to see if they could order me some rolls at face value, as when I wented to the major banks to see if they had some 50 cent pieces, they always said no. I just assumed they never offered this service.

I was also wondering if you had to buy boxes. Can you buy rolls or half of a box instead?? Cause I don't have five hundred dollars right now I want to put into a whole box! (even though I can just bring the ones I don't want back and get the full refund)

I have never, in all my days of roll hunting, come across a box of halves at a bank. Not once. I would be surprised if someone told me they got a box from a Canadian bank.

In the US, if you can find a bank to order halves for you, usually they will let you buy a portion of the box at a time as long as you do get the whole box eventually.

I know for sure in Canada they don't sell "boxes" of any coins. You can only get rolls. The question then is can you get 50 cent rolls at face value, and not those higher premimum collector 50 cent piece rolls?:smile

This is not correct. I currently have 3 boxes of cents sitting behind me in a drawer.

    Wow that is wild!

I didn't know we could order boxes of coins. I just thought they only gave out rolls of coins. Wild!

Are Canadian Banks open on Saturdays?

In my area of Canada, we have some Credit Unions that open on Saturdays, as well as the "TD Canada Trust" bank. I think the Royal Bank might also have some branches that open on Saturdays too.

Apart from those that I have mentioned, I am not sure of other financial institutions that are open.

Only a few banks open on Saturdays TD Canada Trust and the Credit Union. The few that do open on Saturday never have the vault open and always tell you to come back on monday.
