Hey Ya'll I got this coin and I would like to know how much its worth...I paid $5 total with shipping...but only $1.99 for the coin!... It looks to be silver like the Maple Leaves...its still in the mint packing...it also has some CAMEO to it! Thanks Speedy
KM#55, 23.3276g of .800 silver, mintage 7,296,832, centenary of Charlottetown, Quebec. Looks to me like you paid pretty much full value, as 2006 Krause says XF-40, BV (.6 oz ASW); AU-50 US$5; MS-60 US$5.50; MS-63, US$8. Are those spots in front of the Queen's face on the coin or the holder?
Some of the spots are on the coin and some are on the holder... Thanks for the info...gald I didn't pay too much over...I thought it was silver and so I knew it would be worth a little at the most. I'm sure it won't be in the mint packing to much longer...either in a flip or it will be taken to a show I"m hoping to go to!!!!! Speedy
Excuse me for my ignorance because I just haven't developed any talent for this yet, but could this be a proof coin? I suspect not, but if it is my records show that it could be worth closer to $250 (not to get you excited or anything ).
Not very likely. Speedy mentioned that it is still in the mint packaging, which would indicate "proof" if it applied. Also, there is zero frosting or mirrors which would indicate a lot of circulation-type impairment for a proof.
This coin was issued for the centenary of the conferences that led to Canadian confederation (at Charlottetown (which is the capital of Prince Edward Island),& Quebec). This coin is Prooflike. Aidan
As the Maple Leaves area called more PL than they are PF I thought that they would be considdered PL...thanks for the info ;--) Speedy
The term 'Prooflike' was introduced into the Canadian coin collecting field by Charlton, the coin dealer who originally published the Charlton catalogue. Aidan.
This is a common issue. Proof (proof-like) or mintstate, it is only worth a few dollars (ie. price of silver). However, there may be a premium attached if the cameo is superb and/or it is very high grade. The 1964 is also known to have a "missing dot" variety, which will increase the coin's value 3-5x depending on condition. Cloudsweeper99, I'd like to know what records you keep to conclude a proof is worth $250?
