It looks like a 1951 comm. nickel, but it's almost 2" across, and made from aluminum. They aren't too uncommon, I have one, and I see the on ebay sometimes, but I can't find any info on what they are. I'm guessing a souvenir from Sudbury? And when did they make these things? in 1951 or later than that? Are they still being made? Anyone got any info on these things?
Dopeuser, there weren't any Canadian coins struck in aluminium.I do have one of the 1951 commemorative nickel 5c. coins though. It sounds like a token that uses the reverse design of that coin, however. Aidan.
I have a cupple of these, They were struck for the opening of the "Big Nickel" exhibit in Sudbury, 30ish years ago. These were struck in aluminum, and nickel (nickel is more rare I think). Prices were very low when issued, and thousands have been sold over the years. Don't think there still minted.
