No idea where this goes - world, error? nah, just a coin chat. I was browsing Canadian on GC and immediately saw the strong obverse die clash on this PCGS MS62. I needed to fill the nickel gap in my UNC George VI so I put in a bid. Won for $16 including BP and shipping. We love lots of pics on here, right? GC GreatPhoto - gotta love their effort on a coin with a book value of $8! USPS was a fiasco but it arrived yesterday, more than two weeks after purchase. These are sometimes generically called Hearing Aid varieties for the clash inside the ear. I've seen them listed for nickels and dollars in various years, so they're not that uncommon. The dies took a serious whacking this time though. The two images above highlight different die cracks on the reverse, and in hand I detect some subsistence of parts of that die. I'm thinking it didn't last long afterwards. The crack at 2:00 goes through the maple leaf and then out to the rim. The overlay on Maddieclashes is quite busy and not aligned properly, so I reversed the reverse and put in some arrows to show where the obverse clashing came from. There's more. The rump of the beaver is clashed in front of old George and I'm not sure what's at the back of his head (see second image). It must be part of the maple leaf. Here I'm trying a different angle. The beaver butt clash in front of George is hard to capture. The reverse shows another clash under the beaver's nose of the back of George's neck and another crack at the C of Cents, not seen in the other pics. I'm surprised there isn't more clash on the reverse considering how broken the die is from it. I found another one from the same die pair and about the same die state that sold on ebay in August for $CAD40 (about $USD25, seller's pics). Shout out to @BoneDust who posted a similar thread about a 1948 12 years ago and is still actively watching the forum! https://www.cointalk.com/threads/1948-canada-5-cents-multiple-die-clashes.238425/ I got my $16 worth and then some.
Nice purchases and finds! What do they call this Clash again? Never listened to the band by the way. I can come up with a few names.
