Canada 1859 1c. coin - How can you tell the re-engraved date from the normal date?

As a collector of Canadian coins (as well as all British Commonwealth),I have got a couple of the 1859 1c. coin,which has a very attractive design.So,how do I go about trying to find out which coins have the re-engraved date & which ones have the normal date? If you have got any information,please can you leave a posting.

Look at the "9" in 1859. The 1859 narrow 9 looks like a normal number 9, well defined with good seperation of the "tail" from the upper 'body". All others have thicker tails with little or no seperation from the body. The double-punched narrow 9 #2 will have traces of the original 9 on the left side of the numeral. You'll probably need at least 5x magnification and coins that have little wear to see the differences. Good Luck!
