Some one had said something about a 1985 Canadian penny in the forums a few days ago. and i was just wondering what they where talking about. I found one in a pile of wolrd coins i have and was wondering if there was something about the 1985s i should know? ANYONE?
The 1985 Canadian penny has two varieties. The blunt 5 which is very common and the pointed 5 variety. That's all I know about the '85 cent. Hope that helps.
According to my info... Blunt Five: MS-60 = $0.07 PF-65 = $1.95 RD-63 = $0.10 RD-64 = $0.99 RD-65 = $2.64 Pointed Five: MS-60 = $11.47 RD-63 = $26.40 RD-64 = $36.30 RD-65 = $52.80 Do a search for how to tell the difference... it's very subtle.
I have 2 blunts im assuming. From the little i found on them. The fives have no slant/point to them at all. But they are in pretty nice shape. Id say 62 63 there browning from the inside out. I think I will give them to kid down the street. Hes been collecting what ever he can for coins. I thought id ask before i go giving a 100 or so bucks away Thanks for your help fellas. Oldman
You'll probably need a good 10x loupe to determine if they are pointed 5's. I've found all of two so far, in about 3 years worth of searching, if that's any indicator. Oddly enough, I found them 3 weeks apart.
I have a loop. from the names of the 2 types im guessing a blunt look's like this .____l and a Point look's like this. ____/ At the tops on the 5's
yes, thats right, and those prices are correct as well.. too bad they arnt pointed. I've yet to find any pointed yet.. but i just picked up 98 dollars in cents so hopefully...
I saw a ton of canadian coins on ebay today. I always had some interest in the Canadian stuff. But never bothered to much with it. I forget where i have it but i have a brass Nickel from Canada. I thought it was interesting. Typical US coin collector.
