Here is a list of dealer links from another coin forum. I have not done business with all of these folks. Each one may specialize in a few series of coins. Two on the previous list I have done business with and continue to do so. They are "mesacoin.com" and "dave the collectors friend". Very happy with both.
Several I have done business with successfully - Harlan J Berk, The Penny Lady, Mesa Coin, VT Coin, Executive Coin company, L&C, NFC, Heritage - and my favorite large cent dealer http://www.largecents.net/forsale.php.
Man Oh Man Penney guy, that's quite a list. Millers Mint I've dealt with in the brick and mortar sense and, well, lets just say they lack in people skills. Your on-line experiance may be better. Mint products is a company that I've ordered many bullion products from and I've never been dissatisfied. Shipping can be slow though. J J Teaparty...those guys are still around? I ordered stuff from them when I was a kid.
Companies I like and have dealt with, without ANY problems: Wayne Herndon Rare Coin - Super nice dealer, fair prices and honest! He also owns Wizard Coin Supplies and it is the official coin supplies company for the ANA!) Reeded Edge (all kinds of coins, very nice guy also) Abacus Coins (all kinds of US coins) Butternut.org (if you like old Copper, has the best and largest large cent variety collection in the United States. Robert Lecce Rare Coins Jack Hunt (for Bullion only) M&M Numismatics (Expert in Ancient Coins for over 40 years) Latter Investments/Ernie Latter (Expert in Exonumia) You can find most of them on the PCGS web site in the dealer directory.
I have bought quite a few items from mintproducts and have been very satisfied with mint sets and proof sets!!:loud:
http://www.ebay.com/ it is a cool auction site with lots of coins dealt with several of the dealers on the list above, what series/type of coins are you looking for, that may help narrow down the dealer recommendations.
Bingo!! What type and denomination are you looking to buy? That would probably be the best way to start. Face it most of these businesses are generally collectors gone businessperson and they have a favorite and most likely specialize in them. That should narrow it down plenty for you. With more limited resources (cash) it is pretty hard to collect everything, unless you are a dealer and even then, most have specialties and favorites.
I should also recommend american gold exchange (www.amergold.com), their prices are a bit high, and they are geared for investors, but I've bought coins from them and been satisfied (mostly world bullion). APMEX is another good wholesaler, good prices, big variety, they recently upgraded their pre '33 gold too. I bought a generic 1901-S 5 dollar liberty from them in a PCGS slab, gorgeous coin with a nice orange skin. I guess i got lucky, but I recommend them. Above all else though, I recommend mark feld. This man really cares about people. He wouldn't sell me a coin I really wanted because he wanted the best for me...it takes a certain kind of person to turn down money for your coin for your well being. After I talked to him, he ended up selling it to me. It's my 1834 classic head...I did a trade in (20 dollar generic liberty) and a check to get it...well it turns out he sells the $20 and instead of pocketing the profits (which he is entitled to) ends up writing me a check for the profit he made. He has some VERY nice eye appealing coins, ex-NGC grader to boot. Good guy. www.markfeldcoins.com
That is some pretty nice stuff, and not out of line for the nice stuff either. I am a silver guy and I will check in on his inventory on a regular basis. This is what I like to collect and I can upgrade on a slow basis with this to fill in my "lesser" coins. Thanks for the link and the tip, much appreciated.
For Lincolns and others try, http://02a7097.netsolstores.com/about-us.aspx http://www.thepennylady.com/ http://www.indiancent.com/
You're talking about mark feld or the other mentioned websites? I'm glad it was helpful to you. If you mean mark feld (and I think you do) his prices are good for what you get I think. I got a nice original 1834 AU53/CAC NGC Quarter eagle for $1200, which is a good price. Here's a tip, near the top of the inventory if you sign up , sign up for the "Click here to receive my email inventory offerings of brand new purchases." Basically can see the latest coins before he puts him on the site, so you get first dibs. Ever since I've signed up for it I get this giddy feeling of a kid in a candy shop everytime I get to see his latest purchases...especially the gold. Always has some nice stuff. By the way, what silver do you collect? Just curious..I'm a gold guy myself. Mainly I try to learn all I can about the classic head quarter eagles...but I like all US gold and foreign.
Yes, Mark Feld and I took a look at what he has right now. Even though there is not a huge inventory, what is there is great. I will fill in some of the lesser au and xf in my collection and this looks like a great place to get some of them. My reasoning is that he is more into the gold and I love the siver dollars and that is really the only thing I collect to collect, the rest I buy to resell to pay for my collection habit. (If that makes any sense). I collect silver dollars. As I stated above I sell the rest to pay for them and normally have a small inventory in my store but I do a very good job of education and point of sale. Not trying to be cute, but if I can get just a small amount of emotional attachment from the customer they will buy something and something as miniscule as a nice little reference card to go with their $5 to $125 coin of piece or jewelry goes a long way, longer than most will ever imagine. I really like the kid in a candy store reference. When I buy something nice I try to be patient, but end up hating my postal carrier, (she is a nice lady that loves me, and knows how impatient I am when I buy something nice). She actually teases me about it all the time, total tranparency on my part, and will even walk out of my store just to get a reaction when she actually has my package. Thanks for the tip on the new inventory also. I don't have one to give back to you, but if I run across one, I will pm it to you. Thanks again.
