Hello, Can you please help me to know what it is coin ? Coin or token ? Saxony ? 1st side: IOHANFRID.ELECTOR.DUX.SAXO.FI.F+ 2nd side: 1541.HEINRICUS.DUX.SAXONIE.FIERI.F Thank you, John edited
Can "Fieri f." refer to fieri facias? Its latin meaning is "that you cause to be done". When I did some research on it, it says "This is a court document that instructs a sheriff to seize and sell a defendant's property in order to satisfy a monetary judgement against the defendant." Could "Heinricus" refer to Henry IV (Duke of Saxony) and 1541 refer to the year he died? OK that is all I can add good luck. :thumb:
John, The reverse is John Frederick, Elector of Saxony 1532-1547 and the obverse is Henry IV, Duke of Saxony 1539-1541 Fieri.F stands for Fieri Fecit (had this made) "John Frederick, elector, duke of Saxony had this made" There seems to have been more than one Duke at a time from different families or houses, and the title of elector is higher up in the chain of command. It's all very confusing. Here is a link to some coins that are similar to yours, probably a 1/4 thaler. http://someoldcoins.org/saur/g/r779.htm
