I cannot find this one anywhere. Weighs 18 grams, 34mm dia. Front: 1 SOL 1796, obverse: .F Coat of arms -Standing Lion - II. Help would be most appreciated. Thanks
Definitely looks Netherlandsish, and the arms side looks very similar to several candidates. According to the index in the 18th Century volume of Krause the Sol denomination was used in both Spanish and Austrian Netherlands. I just can't find denomination side pictured anywhere, so ?????? (The condition seems too good to be true for the date, both as to state of preservation and quality of strtike. That raises the distinct possibility that it is a modern tourist piece, or part of a Readers Digest or other medallion set.)
Completely out of my line, but I'll guess anyways that way it'll bump you up. My guess is it's some kind of Duit, maybe Netherlands, France or somewhere else distant.
Luxembourg Siege Coinage 1795 1 Sol KM# 19 Cast Copper G-$10.00 VG-$20.00 F-$50.00 VF-$120.00 According to my Krause, page 1003. The F II Stands for Frans the Second
Thanks. Are you seeing a match with my coin ? My photo light was too flat on. The Standing lion I just discovered seems very close to that in the Scotland coat of arms but if you are looking at my 1796 coin in Krause that nails it.
