Looks like silver, very thin, about 15 mm diameter, they are not round but more 'square'.
    Different strike on both sides

    Thank you

I was going to guess Indian Princely States, until I saw the face on the one in the center, which has a sort of Chinese warrior look to it.

My guess would be that they are maybe crusader coins. I know virtually nothing about them so I can't identify them. But the designs are definitely European in origin.

    Better scans & a guess

My guess was based on the previous owner's ancestors origin - Frankenthal.
After browsing the web for 3 whole days - they seems to be medieval German states (Rhineland) Pfennige coins from about the 10-11th century.
By the way - their weight is exactly 0.7 grams each.

How about Islamic 1/2 Dirhems from the Mamaluk period?

They were captured by the Muslums from the Crusaders after the battle of Acer and then used by the Mamluks later on/after that as 1/2 and full dirhems ???. LOL :)

If I had to venture a guess,I'd also say crusader coins too but most likely privately minted on site.As Doug said, the designs are typically British/French,especially the portrait of the king, but way too crude to have been made at one of the official mints of the time,12th-13th centuries.

I'm sure the possibility that they are infact OLD has already been verified. There are several clubs on the internet today which cater to moneying with SCA moneyers, etc :D
