Looks to be a Roman coin of the Emperor Hadrian, I might well be wrong though LOL

I agree it's Hadrian. The reverse appears to be Moneta holding scales & cornucopia.

    Does this look like it?

From the wildwinds Roman Coin database:
    Look at RIC 767

    http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/hadrian/t.html

    RIC 767
    Hadrian AE Sestertius. 134-138 AD.
HADRIANVS AVG COS III P P, laureate head right
MONETA AVG S-C, Moneta standing left, holding scales & cornucopiae

If that coin was cleaned, that would be a shame. It does almost look like it had an old cleaning though.
I would agree that it is a Hadrian after visiting the website willieboyd2 posted.

Close, but his coin has a bare head as opposed to laureate.

Sounds about right, perhaps more depending on rarity of this specific version.

thanks. i thought that it would be worth around 30-50 myself. its kind of odd, the nieve me would think ancient coins would be worth so much

    Hello rightcoastsurf,

The value depends on which type of coin it is. If it's around 25-27 gr, then a sestertius, or 11-13 gr and then an as. It can't be a dupondius as they show a radiate head or bust. If it is a sestertius, I think the value would be more 50 $ than 30 $ IMO.
    Hope it helps
