Sorry if this is in the wrong thread. I'm new and this is my first post. I have this coin that seems old, but it's pretty worn. I have no idea what it is and I was wondering if you guys could help me!
You are holding history in your hand. Looks like a Roman Sestertius of Claudius, possibly RIC 96 or 112, counterstamped during the reign of his successor, Nero. RIC is Roman Imperial Coins, a standard catalog. http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/claudius/t.html Some Claudius coins were counterstamped during the reign of Nero. Here is one with a similar counterstamp and an explanation: http://www.vcoins.com/numisantique/store/viewItem.asp?idProduct=166
