Can you help Identify?

    We have been trying to find out information on the following coin.

    Hi, Charles.

    That is a modern tourist replica of a Spanish Colonial "cob" coin. It's the sort of thing sold in museum gift shops in places like St. Augustine.

    Real ones were struck in silver. Yours is cast in base metal of some kind.

    These can sometimes be tricky if they're sufficiently silvery looking, because even the originals tended to be pretty crude.

    Fortunately most tourist replicas are pretty obvious, though, to anyone who's seen a few real ones. (Yours rather blatantly so.)

    Sorry, no pirate treasure this time, but hey, now you've got a pocket piece or golf ball marker or whatever, anyway.
